New CCIP™ Protects IP Surveillance Systems from Out of Network Attacks



CCIP Denies Out of Network Access to Camera Streams

ISC West 2016 — Las Vegas, NV (April 6, 2016) – DW^®, the industry leader in digital recorders, surveillance cameras and related management software, has announced the addition of a unique security feature between our IP cameras and recorders. CCIP (Closed Circuit Internet Protocol) is available for MEGApix® 1080p and 720p single-sensor cameras and VMAX IP Plus™ NVRs. You can see it demonstrated at the ISC West Security Industry Trade Show, April 6-8, 2016, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Booth 17089. Firmware updates to enable the feature are now available.

There is the possibility that an open platform camera or recorder’s username and password can be hacked, gaining access to the RTSP stream by using a simple URL. DW^®’s CCIP feature encrypts the RTSP stream, adding an additional layer of security.

Camera streams are protected when a user ID and password are used with an NVR. The additional CCIP encryption is activated when the VMAX IP Plus system sends a request for an encrypted stream from the camera. The camera then encrypts its RTSP stream a second time, using the encryption’s user ID and password. The result is a secured and encrypted RTSP stream that can be read only by the requesting VMAX IP Plus NVR.

CCIP will be a standard feature on all new MEGApix cameras.
